I have a novel that needs critique. I currently only have 40 simbi to work with, so if you like I can offer that + feedback for a shorter one of you projects, or we can scratch the simbi altogether and exchange long work for long work for critique. Or whatever, I'm game for negotiating.
"Forgive the Monster" is a 130k-word (a little long, I know) YA manuscript about Alice, the supposed Domglory of the legends. She is preserved at eighteen years old and paralyzed underground with no memory of how she got there, starved and isolated in the dark. She recalls the ‘40s, and Theo, her childhood sweetheart to whom her heart responds—faster the closer he is, and slower the further. Her heart has been silent throughout her isolation.
One October night in 2011, however, she’s summoned and her heart beats again, and so she can move. She follows the new heartbeat to Jack, Theo’s doppelgänger, a year held back in high school. Girls who speak to him turn up days later with their throats slit, hanging upside down and completely drained of blood. While any evidence against him is purely circumstantial, his community still adamantly believes he’s “The Ripper.”
When Jack and Alice meet, both of their mysteries begin to unravel.
Too many supernatural romances feature helpless females in the arms of strong, protective male superhumans, so I flipped the genders. I aim to show young women that they don’t need to be masculine to be heroic, their gender doesn’t exempt them from being an abusive partner, and men who are abused aren't any less of a man than those who aren't.
