About Jane Neve
People often ask me when and how I became a professional dog trainer. I'm not too sure when - it happened because I would get phone calls from people that went along the lines of: "you don't know me but I'm a friend of a friend that said you can help me with my dog". As a child that was asked "what will you be when you grow up?" I would answer "a teacher" and they would smile and then I would add "of dogs". I started door knocking at around the age of 7...if there was a dog behind that door, I was knocking to ask if I could walk their dog. My teenage years were spent briefly in the horseworld but I prefer doggy folks to horsey folks (no offence horse folks). I had an insane Bull Mastiff when I was 10 that I took through the paces of formal obedience and got hooked. But the traditional methods seemed harsh to me because I didn't want my dogs to be afraid of me. I was lucky enough to find trainers that were teaching what is now called "positive motivational relationship science based training" or any combination of that lol. The point is - we can teach pretty much anyone if we stop to observe and understand what their motivator is. Not too many students find pain, frustration, fear motivating. So the approach that is taken by many humane trainers is to "do no harm" and teach in a respectful way. First step - understand your student! That's why I'm here on Simbi - to help you take that first step in understanding what your dog is "saying" to you.
