Bokashi Composting lesson

25 per package - Virtual OK - Posted Jan 20, 2018

Bokashi is a method of composting that is suitable for indoor composting! It is an anaerobic process, which means you want to keep air OUT (rather than regular composting, where you need to turn or stir the compost to incorporate air.) In addition to being easier and cleaner than regular composting, it is also faster. No more waiting until next year to use your compost! The serum and grains take a couple months to make but after that, your compost goes from your kitchen to your garden in about a month. You can buy a Bokashi bucket for around $45-60, or you can make your own for less than half the price. Not only will I give you instructions for making your own composting bucket, I'll also teach you how to make the bokashi grains you need AND the serum needed to make the grains!

I'll give you the instructions for everything you need (making the serum, fermenting the grains, making your composting bucket and how to do the composting) in one easy to follow document. After that, you are free to message me with questions at any time.

Training & Qualifications

I had a bokashi composting system set up and running under my sink for years. I started with a system I purchased at a health food store but when I wanted to expand (so I could be filling a new one while the other one was aging) I decided to see if I could do it myself. I ended up with a 3 unit rotation, which meant I had fresh compost for the garden every week.

Charissa is attentive and offers good info as a product to swap credits for rather than a service; this is just fine for what the project is, and she ...continues communication for as long as needed.show more

I LOVE to travel but it is so expensive from Hawaii. If anyone has vouchers they won't be using (and that can be transferred) I'd love to trade. Just let me know what you think is reasonable. I'...

About Charissa Potrafka

I've lived in Hawaii for over 10 years now and absolutely love it! I'm a nanny and photographer who also makes jewelry (mostly sterling silver and glass) and loves to do crafts. I have extensive exp...erience with pet sitting and house sitting, as well. If you are visiting Hawaii, I'd love to give you inside tips and help you plan your trip, especially if you are trying to do it on a budget. Being frugal in paradise is my specialty! My newest adventure is that I've found a way to get scuba certified and go diving for FREE! WooHoo! I'm doing a work exchange program with a dive shop here on Oahu. I'm a "tank monkey" for one shift a week in exchange for my lessons and equipment. After a pretty horrendous health ordeal, it is exciting to be getting my life back and being active again. I'm into the "crunchy" lifestyle and prefer to make as much as possible myself. I've been brewing kombucha for 10 years now. I also make sourdough and yogurt. If there is a way to DIY something, I've probably tried it (or want to try it!)show more
